I have been doing photography forever, yes kind off. And since I was 10 years old when I first got a hold of this beautiful instrument called “camera” (or so they say), used to practise fashion photography using my friends as models-loved being inspired by fashion magazines and photographers like Peter Lindbergh or Annie Leibovitz/-Kate Barry-, it always seemed easy enough to imagine myself becoming one great photographer
The reality was way different! It took me 15 years in sales to take the leap and follow my heart; I remember it was a September morning probably a Wednesday, when, I stumbled across the University stairs with my Portfolio to be assessed for the photography course I just had applied for.
Being back into education 20 years later was not only a challenge it felt weird and tough to hear from my teachers start again, that my work was not up to scratch, to say it nicely. I guess this teaches humility and made me realise there was still a lot of learning to do to master my skills. I know remember that it was Henri Cartier Bresson that says “your first 10,000 photographs are the worst, I now understand why! I struggled, to put it mildly. I am glad I pushed through the frustration, to realise that what I loved to photograph was people. I was in love with portraits.
